Top Marques Monaco 2008

Supercars, perhaps the rich guy's most coveted toy, is still the centerpiece of Top Marques, but this year the exhibition is pitching itself as the ultimate showcase in a wider range of luxury items, which are likely to appeal to both genders.

Twenty watchmakers and watch purveyors will show off their best pieces in a pavillion at this fifth edition of Top Marques, which runs from April 24 to 27 at the Grimaldi Forum. Among the exhibitors listed are Antiquorum, Boucheron, Ferret, Ice Link, Kronometry and Technomarine. A handful of jewellery makers will also put out displays to dazzle visitors, expected to number 25,000 this year, up from last year's record of 19,000.

Top Marques is also wooing those who take their pleasures on the sea. Visitors will be able to take the helm of some of the fastest and most exclusive race boat designs around today. 		 


But Top Marques remains faithful to land-lovers with a thirst for speed, bringing together under one roof the world's premium rides.

With the accent this year being on alternative fuels, stars of the exhibition include BMW, which has invited local radio host Peter Nugent to imbibe its hydrogen car's emission (the H20 that flows from the exhaust pipe), and Venturi, a Monaco-based maker of hybrids powered by electric and solar energy. When it comes to traditional vehicles, everyone from Austin Martin and Bugatti, through to Virago and Weismann will be represented.

"We're expecting a target of more than 100 million euros being written in business for the luxury products that we have here at Top Marques," said Lawrie Lewis, founder of Top Marques.
