Patti is right. What the general public fails to see, but Patti must know having been in this these four decades, is music is a business involving product development, distribution and marketing. African Americans have the talent, but they don't control the other arms of the industry. If the industry doesn't put your face in front of the buyers and your voice in their ears, and your record on the shelves, your record will go nowhere, no matter how talented you are.
All the same, though, Patti has a lot to be grateful for and to feel proud about, if you ask me.
