Monaco Revue    Low Fares to France and Europe

Where is Monaco anyway? No, it's not in North Africa; that's Morocco, another nice place to visit. Monaco consists of 1.96 independent square kms in the south of France; that is to say, it looks like it should be part of France, but has been under the control of the Grimaldi family as a self-governing principality for centuries. It is bordered by France to the East, West and North. To the South is the Mediterranean Sea. A few minutes away, to the East, is Itay.

Do they speak English in Monaco? French is the official language of the principality, but English is widely spoken, as is Italian.

Do we need a visa from Monaco to go on a vacation to Monaco? The short answer is "No". Monaco does not itself require persons wishing to visit its shores for under three months to obtain visas. However, to enter Monaco, you need to ensure you comply with the visa requirements of France. Holders of British, US and Canadian passports do not need visas. (This info is valid at the time of writing, but you should always double check with the nearest French mission before your travels.) Travellers from other countries can find out whether they need a visa (for France, and therefore Monaco) at the very user-friendly site maintained by the French Consulate General in London.

What kind of money do you need in Monaco? Although it is not part of the European Union, Monaco uses the Euro as its currency. You can see how far your currency will go, using this exchange rate calculator.

What's the best time of year to visit? Anytime you have the time. Situated as it is on the Mediterranean, Monaco is blessed with mild weather all year round; you likely won't be fainting in the streets from heat in summer and you'll need little more than a good windbreaker in winter. A big draw in January is the annual International Circus Festival. April brings the Monte Carlo Masters Tennis Series. Of course every Formula 1 fanatic knows May equals the mayhem of Monaco's famed Grand Prix. If sun and sea is what you're after, the swimming season starts around early May and stragglers can still be found in the water right up to October. During summer (July/August), the night sky over Monaco is lit up as pyrotechnists show off their skills in the International Fireworks Festival. Old world pomp and circumstance, even if on a small scale, are on display in November, when the principality celebrates its National Day. Monaco offers opera, ballet, pop and classical music concerts, as well as art exhibitions all year round.
