Monaco gears up for horse show
At the sound of an unfamiliar clip-clopping, diners from the sidewalk cafes on the promenade at Port Hercule left their tables and rushed to see the horses being taken off their trailers.

When Monaco Revue visited the showground of Le Jumping International de Monte Carlo at dusk on the day before the start of competition, the excitement was palpable. Owners and riders were getting the horses settled into their stables; the grounds were being hosed and tamped down; and final touches were being added to stands, cheerfully decorated in Monaco's national colours of red and white.

Riders and horses from around the world have turned up for what is a major event, not only for Monaco, but on the Global Champions Tour circuit.

The world class horse jumping competition, which takes over the Port for three days (June 28 to 30), is under the patronage of Monaco's sovereign, Prince Albert II, and under the honourary presidency of his sister, Princess Caroline.
