United for a better world
Warm greetings and broad smiles were the order of the evening when European royalty joined with African near-royalty in Monaco to raise funds for various charities.

Members of Monaco's ruling family graciously welcomed internationally cherished elder statesman Nelson Mandela and his wife, Graça Machel, at the United for a Better World benefit (Sept 02, 2007). The Grimaldi clan included sovereign Prince Albert II and his elder sister Princess Caroline, both of whom had previously met Mandela, South Africa's former president. Also present were the princess' husband, Prince Ernst of Hanover, and daughter Charlotte Casiraghi.

The international gathering brought together singers Bono, Julian Lennon and Dame Shirley Bassey, Jordan's Queen Noor, actor Norman Freeman and supermodels Naomi Campbell and Petra Nemcova. The 3,500-euro dinner was held to raise funds for Amade, an international children's charity with Princess Caroline as its president, as well as for the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, and The Mandela Rhodes Foundation.
