Christmas 2007 in Monaco

When we look out our office window, the first thing that catches our eye speaks nothing of Christmas. Who associates yuletide festivities with azure waters on which little boats with triangular white sails can be seen gently bobbing? Not that we're complaining about the weather, mind you. It's jolly good to be traipsing around in a fall jacket when hearing from colleagues in temperate zones of their battles with sleet and snow. Monaco does seem to try hard to conjure up the spirit of the season, though. We took a walk around to see where we could find it.

It's December but blue skies and blue waters are what fill Monaco inhabitants with cheer.

Those entering The Rock by car are greeted by the sight of this dressed up gate.

Up on The Rock, the trees are draped with lovely red and white lights.

The "monk" who took The Rock by force is seeing red at this time of year.

The swimming pool has been converted to an ice rink/go-kart circuit, where Monaco children take in the action the modern way -- snapping away on their cell phone cameras.

Yes, they're skiing in Monaco, on a trail courtesy a trusty snow machine.

A favourite with the kids at the Christmas village is this well filled with snow.

Christmas at the Golden Square opened with a somewhat appocalyptic performance that drew lustly applause from onlookers; in the background, the Casino is bathed in fantastical lights

WOW awesome pictures ... actually can't wait to see it for myself. Going to spend the festive season in Monte Carlo this year ;o) Arriving on Sunday!!!

Kids today! Whatever happened to the idea of crawling up into Santa's lap and telling him what a good kid you've been all year? Sheesh! Administrator comment: Actually, Rosalind, the exchange between Santa and the boy was all good natured. They both had a good laugh. --CD
