Monaco International Cat Show 2008

They came, they purred, and they conquered many hearts.

Some 200 feline lovelies from across Europe, such as this Italian charmer (right) who won the prize for the most beautiful green eyes, were the center of attention on the weekend (Feb 2- 3). The occasion was the first Monaco International Cat Show at the Rainier III Auditorium.

The event was staged by the Monaco Feline Association, an organization that's just six months old. Although the principality has long has a Society for the Protection of Animals, under the patronage of Princess Antoinette, and there is an association for canines, felines did not have an umbrella body of their own until now.

No one knows how many cats there are pacing the marble floors of Monaco, as cat licences are not required for apartment dwellers. The new organization, which says it has the blessings of Princess Antoinette, gives cat lovers an opportunity to congregate and share their passion for the animals, suggests president Martine Woolf. The body is associated with LOOF – the Official French Book of Feline Origins – and its competitions for pedigree cats are recognized by the Fédération Internationale Féline as well as the World Cat Federation.

The Monaco Feline Association did a great job. It was a great show and will grow from strength to strength. Looking forward to more cats next year.
