Del Piero selected as favourite footballer

Strikingly handsome Italian football striker Alessandro Del Piero dropped by Monte Carlo to pick up the 2007 Golden Foot award (Sept 03). The Juventus captain and a penalty scorer on Italy's 2006 World Cup winning team was this year voted the most beloved footballer still in activity by fans worldwide. He was selected from among a field of ten international soccer stars, which included England's captain David Beckham. This year is turning out to be quite significant for the 33-year-old, who will now have his footprint included among those of football greats Maradona, Zico, Platini and George Best in the Promenade of Champions on Monaco's seafront.
